Hatchets & Hops

Frequently Asked Questions:

We get it. This whole axe throwing is really different. How does this all work? Let us take a crack at addressing some of the common questions that we get…

Is this a private club? Or can anyone just come by?

No, we are not a private club. While we do hold a lot of private events, like company holiday parties – we are open to the public just like a bowling alley. But everything is group based, and you’ve got to book your group in advance here.

What are your hours?

Check out this page for our hours and contact info.

So you take walk-ins?

Our customers book their group’s session ahead of time. For that reason, we strongly advise booking in advance here. We would hate for you to make the trip out just for us to be fully booked for the night! Please be on-time (or 15 minutes early) for your reserved time, as our waiting list is kinda long.

Group based you say? How many of my posse should come along?

Our smallest group size is 6 people. Our most common group size is 12. But we can accommodate groups of up to 36 people at a time (subject to availability). And yes, you can bring 11 people. But do your best to grab your mailman on the way so you’ve got an even number.

If my group books a time slot, does that mean I’m having a private group experience?

Not at all! That’s just not how we do things. We operate our axe throwing sessions in a deliberately intimate club setting. The goal of the Hatchets & Hops experience is to bring people together, cross boundaries, and step outside of your comfort zone. We often combinesmall groups to optimize that experience. If you leave without making new friends, you’re doing something wrong!

I see you’ve got specific time slots. Do you hold me to that?

Yes. You’ll see in our terms and conditions when you book a group session that if your entire party hasn’t arrived by 15 minutes after your scheduled start time, you’ve gotta forge ahead – or risk us giving away the time slot. This is due both to the lengthy waiting list we’ve got for people to get in and throw, and the community side of the experience. Combining groups means we’ve got to respect one another’s time.

Our event is booked! But, something’s come up and we can’t make our date. What now?

Here at Hatchets & Hops, we cater your event to your group. Each of our instructors is scheduled specifically for your event, ready to teach you to throw. For this reason, deposits are non-refundable, and it’s generally not possible for us to reschedule. But we understand that sometimes things come up. If you need to reschedule your throwing date, send us an email and we will see what we can do.

Some of the folks in my group bailed. Should I cancel? Can I cancel?

It sucks that your friends bailed. We hate it when people leave us holding the bag. But you’ve gotta find some people to replace them. Your balance due is for the group size that originally booked.

Do I have to be a burly hulk of a man-bear to do this?

Not at all! This sport is really accessible, and isn’t a feat of strength. It’s about technique, paying attention to the instructors, and relaxing enough to enjoy yourself. The only thing we take super seriously is safety.

Is there an age limit?

Yes. Our facility is limited to those 21 years of age and over. Even if you are not participating, you cannot enter the facility if you are under 21.

Okay so talk to me about this safety thing.

The whole thing is very safe and structured. Your group is with a highly trained instructor the entire time. We are proud to say that we have more stringent safety measures in place than any other axe throwing club in North America, and that shows in our perfect safety record. For more info, check out our 12-Point Safety Policy here.

So, we should pre-game this thing?

Please don’t. Customers under the influence of alcohol or other substances will not be admitted to the facility and will not receive a refund.

Can I bring my own axe?

Sorry amigo. Not here.

Do you guys throw knives?

No. If you’re wondering why she swiped left, this is it right here. We throw two things: axes and parties.

Do you have leagues?

Yes! Check out information about current leagues at our events page here.
